Saturday, August 31, 2019, Robert Silverman and Bobo Lavorgna 50th Anniversary Concert, The Buttonwood Tree, Middletown, CT

An evening of original and traditional jazz & blues music, celebrating 50 years of friendship and musicianship. 

Robert Silverman biography:

Pianist, trumpeter, vocalist, composer Robert Silverman was born in New Haven, CT, and has been playing trumpet since age 9. He has performed jazz for 50 years and has 13 CDs to his credit and performed with Albert King, Jimmy Heath, George Russell, Al Harewood, Cecil McBee, Lawrence Killian, Buddy Guy, Ron Levy, and members of Duke Ellington Band. He is a graduate of the jazz studies department of the New England Conservatory of Music and did graduate work with Jimmy Heath at Queens College. Mr. Silverman was awarded best jazz composer in 2013 by Bronx Council on the Arts and has won numerous grants and awards. He currently works with the elderly population and shares his love of jazz with them and young people as well. He teaches piano at Northeastern University in Boston and is on the staff of the 92nd Street Y in New York City where he teaches jazz history.

Bobo Lavorgna biography:

Bassist Bobo Lavorgna was born in New Haven at a very early age. He started his music career playing with bluesman Robert Crotty, and as a member of The Blake Street Gut Band. He went on to perform with Stormin’ Norman & Suzy (opening for Manhattan Transfer at Carnegie Hall), Jake & the Family Jewels, and with Paul Butterfield Blues Band keyboardist and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Mark Naftalin.

Lavorgna continues performing and recording with jazz, folk, blues, rock and R&B groups in the tri-state area. He is currently working on the Ebin-Rose Trio 25th anniversary CD at Coffeehouse Recording Studio and performing with Mark Naftalin, singer/songwriter Tommy Cosmo, The Guy Zinda Band and bluegrass quartet Frog Hollow.

Silverman and Lavorgna met in high school and started playing jazz and blues during their lunch break. They have been performing together ever since.
